Babysitter Goes Ballistic After Man Rejects Her on Family Vacation Toyota’s Grand Slam: The \”Holy Trinity\” Reimagined for the 2025-2028 Era For years, automotive enthusiasts have been clamoring for Toyota and Lexus to deliver vehicles that truly push the boundaries of performance, technology, and design. Following the highly anticipated reveal of their so-called \”Holy Trinity\”—the GR GT road car, the GR GT3 race car, and the conceptual Lexus LFA successor—we were granted a rare opportunity to get up close with the machines and speak with the teams behind them. While much remained cloaked in official secrecy, the overall message was clear: Toyota intends to make this journey from concept to production count, delivering a trifecta of high-performance vehicles that push technological and engineering boundaries. The star of the show, the Toyota GR GT, is poised to make its road-going debut around 2027, serving as the homologated street-legal counterpart to the GR GT3 race car. The latter is slated to appear on track slightly earlier, mirroring a trend we’ve seen with previous halo vehicles, though the timeline remains slightly fluid. Toyota GR GT: Pricing, Performance, and the Pursuit of the Perfect Lap The GR GT is the production sports car that Toyota has tentatively slated for a 2027 release, positioning it as a 2028 model year. This model will serve as the homologated basis for the GR GT3 race car, ensuring both vehicles share the same core architecture and performance philosophy. Pricing and Competitive Positioning Pricing discussions for the GR GT were met with the typical strategic reticence from program managers. However, when pressed, Chief Program Manager Takashi Doi directed our attention to the competitive set, including the Porsche 911 GT3, Mercedes-AMG GT, and Aston Martin Vantage. By analyzing the claimed 641 horsepower and 3,858-pound curb weight of the GR GT, we arrive at a power-to-weight ratio of approximately 6.0 lb/hp. This places it squarely in the competitive arena with high-end German and British sports cars. | Vehicle | Curb Weight | Horsepower | Power-to-Weight Ratio | Estimated Base Price | | :— | :— | :— | :— | :— | | 2028 Toyota GR GT | 3,858 lb | 641 hp | 6.0 lb/hp | N/A | | 2026 Porsche 911 GT3 | 3,278 lb | 502 hp | 6.2 lb/hp | $235,500 | | 2026 Porsche 911 Turbo S | 3,859 lb | 701 hp | 5.5 lb/hp | $275,650 |
| 2026 AMG GT Pro 4Matic | 4,299 lb | 603 hp | 7.1 lb/hp | $202,200 | | 2026 Aston Martin Vantage S | 3,847 lb | 671 hp | 5.7 lb/hp | $235,000 | (Indicates hybrid powertrain or optional performance features) Based on this data, it is highly probable that the Toyota GR GT will be priced in the $200,000 to $250,000 range, positioning it as a direct competitor to established players in the premium sports car market. High-end performance car pricing has never been more competitive, and Toyota is playing for keeps. Performance Modes and Driving Dynamics The GR GT features a fiendishly complicated hybrid powertrain that, crucially, includes a mechanical limited-slip differential (LSD). This configuration is designed to offer not just raw power, but highly engaging driving dynamics, allowing for the kind of tire-scorching shenanigans demanded by enthusiasts: thick black burnouts, smoky donuts, and extended, eye-watering drifts. But will it drift? And will there be a drift mode? Doi-san confirmed that his team is actively developing different driving modes, although the specifics remain undisclosed. The steering wheel provides some hints, with a knob labeled ‘Sport Boost’ suggesting an extra layer of power on demand. The opposite side features a traction and stability control button labeled ‘TRC/VSC’, with an explicit ‘Off’ option. When questioned, Doi eventually confirmed that drivers will have the ability to turn off traction and stability control entirely. Looking ahead, we inquired about future higher-performance models of the GR GT. Will we see a Nürburgring Edition, a GRMN, a GT R, or a GT3 RS variant, following the footsteps of the Lexus LFA’s limited production? “Obviously we can’t talk about future product,” Doi replied, “but variations and improvements is something we’re always looking for. And that’s crucial, very important for a sports car.” The Nürburgring Nordschleife: From Humiliation to Redemption The Nürburgring Nordschleife is central to the GR GT’s ethos. When Akio Toyoda, or “Master Driver Morizo,” introduced the GR GT and GR GT3 in Woven City, he stood before a massive screen displaying the word ‘Humiliation’ with a capital H. He spoke at length about the recent struggles of Toyota’s sports cars at the Green Hell—including the Toyota Supra—being easily passed by faster, better-handling competitors, many of them from Germany.
It is this very Japanese concept of using humiliation as a force for improvement that has driven the development of the GR GT and GT3. When asked about the importance of the Nürburgring and if the team is targeting a specific lap time—such as the sub-7-minute barrier recently set by the Mustang GTD, Corvette ZR1, and Corvette ZR1X (6:52, 6:50, and 6:49 respectively)—Doi-san declined to confirm. However, he did affirm the importance of the ‘Ring to Toyota, the GR brand, and the company’s motorsports programs. He reiterated Akio’s position that the GR GT will not be the one getting passed on the Green Hell. Given the meticulous nature and legendary focus of Japanese automotive engineering, we interpret this as a declaration that the GR GT will achieve a sub-7-minute lap time. This is particularly likely given that rivals like the Porsche 911 GT3 and AMG GT have already comfortably surpassed that benchmark. For those serious about Nürburgring lap times, this is the benchmark to beat. The Next-Generation Lexus LFA: A Bold Future If the look of the new Lexus LFA appeals to you and you want to know when it’s coming and how much it will cost, you might have to exercise patience. “Several years” was the refrain from Toyota representatives, including Doi-san. Pricing, Production, and Technological Hurdles As for the price, we believe the new Lexus LFA will need to be significantly more affordable than its predecessor. The original LFA, launched in 2010, debuted at a staggering $375,000 and exited the market a couple of years later at $445,000 for the Nürburgring Edition. Doi-san conceded that the world has changed significantly since the V-10-powered Lexus LFA departed the market. Coming back as an electric vehicle (EV) complicates the equation. The implication is that the next-generation LFA needs to be priced below $350,000. We believe it must be substantially lower for several key reasons. The market for luxury sports coupes is already small, and there are currently no electric sports coupes priced above $200,000. There are a handful of electric luxury and performance cars over $200,000, including the Lucid Air Sapphire, Rolls-Royce Spectre, and Cadillac Celestiq, but none fit the competitive profile of the LFA. Moving into the electric hypercar realm of the Rimac Nevera and Lotus Evija brings you into the $2.3 to $2.4 million bracket, which is decidedly not Lexus territory. The only vehicle that comes close to the mission Lexus is attempting to execute is the second-generation Tesla Roadster, rumored to be in the $200,000 to $250,000 range—if the vaporware ever materializes. This is a critical competitive benchmark for any electric sports coupe. The Solid-State Battery Game-Changer There is one complicating factor that could render the LFA a very expensive and exotic luxury sports flagship for Lexus: the possibility of it arriving with solid-state battery (SSB) technology. No one at the event would confirm this under direct questioning, but the rumblings are significant.
What we do know is that Toyota has been working on solid-state batteries since 2020, after establishing a joint venture with Panasonic named Prime Planet Energy & Solutions, Inc. In 2024, Toyota released an update on its battery plans, showing SSBs arriving in
