Police Rescue Two Kids From Their EXTREMELY Toxic Mom Toyota’s Sports Car Offensive: A Masterclass in Engineering and Legacy The Debut of the GR GT, GR GT3, and Lexus LFA Concept – What It All Means The automotive world is abuzz with anticipation following the official unveiling of Toyota’s new “holy trinity” of performance vehicles: the Lexus LFA Concept, the production-ready GR GT, and the GR GT3 race car. The event, held at the futuristic Woven City, wasn’t just a showcase of advanced automotive technology; it was a declaration of intent from Toyota’s visionary leadership. Led by Chairman Akio Toyoda (Morizo), this initiative marks a significant pivot, signaling a renewed commitment to sports car development and the preservation of essential manufacturing skills. Following the presentation, we were given an exclusive opportunity to inspect the vehicles up close and engage in technical briefings with chief program manager Takashi Doi and the engineering teams. While not all secrets were revealed, the message was clear: Toyota plans to maximize every milestone as these vehicles evolve from concept to production and enter motorsports. GR GT: The Future of Road-Legal Performance Pricing and Availability The GR GT, positioned as the production version of the GR GT3 race car, is scheduled for release in 2027, likely arriving at dealerships as a 2028 model. While the race car may debut slightly earlier, historical examples show that development often outpaces homologation requirements. When questioned about pricing, Program Manager Doi suggested we compare specifications with the Porsche 911 GT3 and Mercedes-AMG GT lineups. Using the GR GT’s claimed power output of 641 hp and a curb weight of 3858 lbs, we calculate a power-to-weight ratio of 6.0 lbs/hp. Here is how this compares to its contemporaries: | Vehicle | Curb Weight | Horsepower | Power-to-Weight Ratio | Base Price | | :— | :— | :— | :— | :— | | 2028 Toyota GR GT | 3858 lb | 641 hp | 6.0 lb/hp | N/A | | 2026 Porsche 911 GT3 | 3278 lb | 502 hp | 6.2 lb/hp | $235,500 | | 2026 Porsche 911 Turbo S | 3859 lb | 701 hp | 5.5 lb/hp | $275,650 | | 2026 AMG GT Pro 4Matic | 4299 lb | 603 hp | 7.1 lb/hp | $202,200 |
| 2026 Aston Martin Vantage S | 3847 lb | 671 hp | 5.7 lb/hp | $235,000 | Note: Prices are approximate and subject to change. Based on this competitive landscape, the GR GT is expected to retail for over $200,000. Performance Modes and Drivetrain Architecture The GR GT features a sophisticated electromechanical hybrid powertrain coupled with a mechanical limited-slip differential (LSD). This architecture promises not only engaging driving dynamics but also the ability to perform tire-scorching maneuvers, including burnouts, drifting, and high-performance maneuvers. When asked if the car would support drift modes, Doi-san confirmed the development of various driving modes, though specific names were not disclosed. However, the steering wheel provides clues: a knob on the right labeled ‘Sport Boost’ and another on the left marked ‘TRC/VSC’ with an ‘Off’ option. Doi eventually affirmed that drivers would be permitted to disable traction and stability control systems. Looking ahead, the question of future performance variants naturally arose. Would there be a Nürburgring Edition, a GRMN (Meister of Nürburgring), GT R, or GT3 RS version? “We obviously can’t talk about future product,” Doi stated, “but variations and improvements are something we’re always looking for. And that’s crucial, very important for a sports car.” The Nürburgring: From Humiliation to Redemption During the presentation in Woven City, Chairman Akio Toyoda stood before a dramatic backdrop displaying the word ‘HUMILIATION’. He spoke at length about the past experiences of Toyota sports cars—including the Supra—being outpaced at the Nürburgring Nordschleife by faster German counterparts. This Japanese concept of leveraging failure as a catalyst for improvement is the driving force behind the GR GT and GT3 development. Regarding the Nürburgring, we inquired whether the team is targeting a specific lap time, such as the Mustang GTD’s 6:52, Corvette ZR1’s 6:50, or ZR1X’s 6:49. Doi-san did not confirm a specific target but reiterated the Nürburgring’s paramount importance to Toyota, the GR brand, and its motorsports programs. He stressed that the GR GT would not be the one getting passed on the Green Hell. Given the modesty and humility typical of Japanese automotive engineers, this is essentially a declaration that the GR GT will achieve a sub-7-minute lap. Various Porsche 911 GT3 and AMG GT models have already surpassed this benchmark, making it a realistic goal for Toyota’s newest challenger. Lexus LFA: The Electric Future of the V-10 Supercar Pricing and Availability
For enthusiasts hoping for a quick release of the new LFA, the news is more measured. Toyota representatives, including Doi-san, indicated the production version is “several years away.” Regarding pricing, we believe the new LFA will need to be significantly less than the original, which debuted in 2010 at $375,000 and ended its run at $445,000 (Nürburgring Edition). Doi-san conceded that the automotive landscape has transformed since the original V-10 supercar departed. The transition to an electric platform complicates matters, suggesting the next-generation LFA may target a price point below $350,000. However, we anticipate a price substantially lower than that. The luxury sports coupe market is already niche, and there are currently no electric sports coupes priced above $200,000. While vehicles like the Lucid Air Sapphire, Rolls-Royce Spectre, and Cadillac Celestiq exceed $200,000, they do not fit the LFA’s competitive profile. The Rimac Nevera and Lotus Evija sit in the $2.3 to $2.4 million range, far outside Lexus territory. The closest competitor in terms of aspirational pricing might be the rumored second-generation Tesla Roadster, which is reportedly targeted between $200,000 and $250,000—if Elon Musk’s electric vision ever materializes. The Lexus LFA as a Solid-State Battery Flagship? One factor that could position the LFA as an exotic luxury sports flagship is the potential integration of solid-state battery (SSB) technology. While no one at the event confirmed this under direct questioning, the rumor is compelling. Toyota has been developing solid-state batteries since 2020, through a joint venture with Panasonic named Prime Planet Energy & Solutions, Inc. In 2024, Toyota provided an update, projecting SSB availability between 2027 and 2028, with a range of 621 miles (1000 km) and charging times of approximately 10 minutes. This revolutionary performance would represent a massive technological leap, precisely what Lexus likely seeks for its flagship sports car. It could also resolve significant packaging challenges for the electric LFA. The current industry standard for EV manufacturing is to position heavy battery packs as low as possible in the chassis (the skateboard architecture). However, the LFA shares an all-aluminum spaceframe chassis with the GR GT and GR GT3, which lacks a traditional floorpan ahead of the firewall. Could traditional lithium-ion cells be fitted ahead of the firewall or under the cabin? Or could they occupy the engine bay, transmission tunnel, and cargo areas once the GR GT’s hybrid V-8 powertrain is removed? The use of T-shaped battery packs has become popular in the aftermarket, making anything possible. The adoption of smaller, lighter, and more energy-dense SSB technology seems plausible. While this remains conjecture, integrating game-changing solid-state batteries into the Lexus flagship makes sense from a packaging, performance, and marketing perspective. This could also explain why the production debut of the LFA is still several years away. Fiendish Electromechanical Complexity: A Future-Forward Flex The cutaway model of the GR GT’s powertrain reveals a marvel of engineering. Starting with an all-aluminum engine and forged internal components (pistons, rods, and cross-plane crankshaft), the system generates 641 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque via twin turbochargers.
All power is channeled through a driveshaft encased in a carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) “torque tube” to a rear-mounted bell housing. This housing contains the hybrid system’s electric motor and an
