When Husband Beater Shows up at Husband’s Work The Concours at Wynn Las Vegas: A Direct Challenge to The Quail The world of automotive excellence has a new pretender to the throne. For years, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, has been the undisputed arbiter of cool, the appetizer to the main course that is the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It draws the titans of the automotive world, a stage where every brand must prove its worth. Yet, a seismic shift has occurred. The 2025 Concours at Wynn Las Vegas has emerged not just as a contender, but as a formidable rival threatening to usurp The Quail’s long-held dominance in the supercar arena. For decades, the conversation has revolved around Pebble Beach. But as the automotive landscape evolves, so does the definition of “elite.” The traditional definition of “concours d’elegance”—a showcase of automotive artistry where entries are judged primarily on their appearance and presentation—is being rewritten. The traditional hierarchy of the automotive world, dominated by events like Goodwood, Amelia Island, and Retromobile, is being shaken to its core by a newcomer in the neon desert. In the hallowed halls of supercar collecting, the question is no longer whether Pebble Beach is the king, but rather who is the legitimate heir to its throne. The Quail, with its legendary reputation as the exclusive preview of what’s to come, has long been the darling of the industry. It has served as the unofficial stage for debuts of hypercars from the most exclusive manufacturers, filling the void left by the shuttering of the Geneva International Auto Show. The Rise of The Quail The Quail has always held a special place in the hearts of those who worship the latest, most powerful machinery. For those who prioritize the cutting edge of automotive engineering over the patina of vintage classics, The Quail has long since eclipsed its Sunday neighbor. A significant segment of the automotive cognoscenti—enthusiasts who crave the latest hypercars and hyper-exclusive models—find themselves flocking to The Quail and skipping the more traditional vintage events. Why? The Lamborghini Aventador, a cornerstone of modern Lamborghini lore, first graced the world’s stage at Geneva in 2011, followed by the revolutionary Veneno in 2013. The spiritual successor to the Aventador, the Revuelto, debuted with an online reveal, but the Temerario—the future of the Huracán—made its public entrance at The Quail in 2024. The same year saw the global unveiling of the Fenomeno, a seven-figure hypercar that has set new benchmarks for exclusivity. Even Bugatti, a titan of the automotive realm, chose The Quail as the venue for its Divo (2018) and Mistral (2022), following the Chiron’s debut in Geneva back in 2016. These examples are not outliers; they are the new standard. Manufacturers increasingly see The Quail as the ultimate launchpad for their most precious creations. This has solidified The Quail’s position as the premier destination for enthusiasts of cutting-edge, ultra-rare vehicles. For years, I shared this sentiment. I believed The Quail’s throne was secure. Then I attended the 2025 Las Vegas Concours, held at the opulent Wynn Las Vegas, and I am no longer certain.
A Glimpse into the Las Vegas Spectacular To understand the magnitude of what is happening in Las Vegas, one must first grasp the scale of the event. The 2024 Wynn Vegas Concours was a pleasant surprise, but it still felt somewhat provincial, dominated by the usual suspects. It was an enjoyable gathering, but if it hadn’t been for a professional commitment with Czinger, I might not have attended. Thankfully, I did. The Bugatti Invasion The headline that struck me first was the number of Bugattis. The Wynn hosted a staggering 48 Bugatti Veyrons on its sprawling lawns. Considering only 450 were ever built, and just 100 made it to North America, having nearly 10% of the world’s entire Veyron production in one place is mind-boggling. To put it mildly, my head was still spinning. Adding to the spectacle, Bugatti graced the event with a pristine white Vitesse Super Sport, commemorating the Veyron’s 20th anniversary. Alongside it sat the track-focused Bolide, the ultra-exclusive Centodieci, the Chiron Super Sport, the Divo, the Mistral, and a tantalizing sneak peek of the upcoming Tourbillon—the Veyron’s 18-cylinder hybrid successor. To bring together such a monumental collection of Bugatti’s most iconic and rarest models is a feat that few events can claim. Pagani’s Milestone Debut But the Bugatti spectacle was not the only showstopper. The children—and yes, even the adults—were just as thrilled by the Pagani presence. This event hosted the largest gathering of Paganis ever assembled in North America, a fact that speaks volumes about the direction the automotive industry is heading. While the exact count was elusive, the number of cars hovered around 40. Among them were multiple Zondas, including the ultra-rare Zonda Revolution (one of only five ever produced), dozens of Huayras, several Utopias, and—perhaps most significantly for The Quail—the stunning Pagani Huayra Codalunga Speedster. This specific model is slated for a production run of just 10 units, each commanding a price tag of $7 million before taxes and tariffs. The mint-green prototype was rumored to belong to Apple co-founder Tim Cook, adding another layer of exclusivity to the display. This was more than just a casual gathering of hypercars. It was a testament to the significance of the Wynn Las Vegas event. Horacio Pagani, the founder of Pagani Automobili, was honored on stage for his contributions to car design by emcee Justin Bell. But more than that, Horacio Pagani and his team chose this venue to introduce a car to the world. This decision is not a trivial one; it signals a shift in manufacturer priorities. The fact that the number of Paganis present exceeded the annual production output of the company demonstrates the level of commitment and prestige attached to the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas. Lamborghini’s Unrivaled Collection
The Lamborghini section was equally breathtaking, particularly for those who appreciate the Italian marque’s bold design and screaming performance. The 2025 Wynn Vegas Concours hosted the largest gathering of Lamborghinis in history—and I mean ever. Again, exact numbers were difficult to pin down amidst the excitement, but the consensus was around 230 cars, accounting for nearly half of the 600 total vehicles at the event. This concentration of Lamborghini power is virtually unprecedented. Included in this extraordinary lineup were the near-mythical Veneno Coupe (one of only three sold to the public; the factory kept one), the rare Sesto Elemento (one of ten), and the Centenario Coupe (one of twenty) alongside its convertible sibling (also one of twenty). Even the low-production Reventón (one of twenty-one) was present. Seeing all these “few-offs,” as Lamborghini now affectionately calls them, together in one place was a flabbergasting display of precious, high-horsepower Italian metal and composites. It was a sight that only a few might ever witness in a lifetime. A Galaxy of Automotive Marvels In the interest of brevity, I must refrain from detailing every jaw-dropping moment, but the spectacle continued unabated. We witnessed an array of Koenigseggs, the raw power of the Gumpert Apollo, the avant-garde design of the Czingers, the sleek lines of the Nilu, and the global debut of the McLaren Project Endurance race car. The judging arena itself was a spectacle worthy of the world’s most prestigious concours. The Concours at Wynn Las Vegas featured several classes that would impress any veteran judge, including a former Pebble Beach Concours-winning 1929 Mercedes-Benz 680 S Barker Tourer 26/120/180. Winning Best Pre-War Show here is no small feat, proving that even the most classic automotive icons are welcome alongside the most modern hypercars. The event also showcased the HWA EVO, a Mercedes-AMG One, two Oldsmobile Aerotechs, and a McLaren F1. In short, the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas isn’t just a car show; it’s a statement. It’s a declaration that the automotive elite has arrived in the desert. What Could Possibly Come Next? Two questions dominated the conversations among attendees throughout the weekend: “How on earth are they going to top this next year?” and, more intriguingly, “Should we even bother doing The Quail next year?” The first question is one that the organizers at Wynn Las Vegas must be pondering. They have set an almost impossibly high bar for themselves. As for the second question, it is a fair and pressing concern. The Quail is undoubtedly the king of the traditional concours world, but its dominance is being challenged by a newcomer that offers what many now value more: accessibility and value.
Consider the stark differences in cost. A single ticket to The Quail last year cost an eye-watering $1,300 for legacy attendees and $1,600 for newcomers. For manufacturers, the cost of a stand is approximately $400,000 for just six hours. In stark contrast, the Wynn Las Vegas Concours charges roughly one-twentieth of that amount. For the
