Understanding the Significance of Bathurst 12 Hour
For those unfamiliar with the Mount Panorama Circuit, it is a place that holds a special significance for racing fans due to its unique location and challenging layout. While most closed-course racing tracks incorporate natural rolling hills, and street circuits are typically flat due to their urban settings, Mount Panorama stands apart. It is located on its namesake mountain, featuring tight walls and steep gradients that create a breathtaking and demanding driving experience.
The circuit is defined by a dramatic 571-foot elevation change and the exhilarating speeds that drivers reach on the famous Conrod Straight. These features contribute to making the Bathurst 12 Hour one of the most thrilling and challenging endurance races in the world. Adding to its mystique, Mount Panorama is technically a street circuit, as it is a public road that is closed to the public during the races held there each year. The combination of elevation changes, narrow corners, and high-speed straights makes this track a true test of driver skill and car performance.
